Laban Movement Analysis Training

If you want to gain insight in your movement patterns, move more expressively, improve your observation skills or expand your movement vocabulary, then this 3-day workshop is for you. But also if you are already familiar with LMA and want to refresh or deepen your knowledge and experience, you are welcome!

LMA is a system for understanding, analyzing, describing and recording movement. LMA helps you to observe, articulate and choreograph. It supports performance qualities and is a great inspiration for improvisation work. And you learn to use a clear, and detailed language to talk about movement. The practical experiences are supported by a theoretical framework, but we will mainly learn through movement experiences. Exploration of Laban's basic categories “Effort”, “Space”, “Shape”, “Body”, provide insight and basic knowledge of the Laban Movement Analysis. We observe these principles in ourselves and in others. There will also be moments of reflection through which you can connect these principles with your own interest(s) and field of work.

This training introduces the Laban Movement Analysis (LMA), developed by Rudolf von Laban (1879-1958). This experiential and theoretical approach to movement focuses on understanding and experiencing the basic elements of all human movement. With this analysis system, Laban made a major contribution to the dance world at the beginning of the last century. But nowadays this system is used in a variety of disciplines including: visual arts, theatre, dance (therapy), music, sports, all kinds of somatics, anthropology, robotics and cultural studies.

The training is intended for dance therapists, actors, dancers, dance teachers, theater teachers and anyone interested in movement.

I offer this training in a large studio so we all have enough space and if necessary can keep distance. We also take other covid measures into account.

The training is valid as an admission requirement for:

1. the Certification Program in the Laban Bartenieff Movement System of EMOVE Institute. For more information, please contact Marieke or visit the website .
